Dear Thiha,

Since you are not here in Myanmar, I think a letter of what is happening here would be nice for you. I miss you. Here are some updates from Myanmar.

So, the Covid-19 outbreak had quite an effect on us. I mean… a lot of businesses face with difficulties. You see… the other day, I went out to buy some groceries to make rice ball (I know! It’s your fav.) and almost all the shops on the street are closed. I felt like I was in a sci-fi movie. It’s scary and sad. Okay… I don’t really want to make you depressed with this topic. You must probably sick of this news already.

Okay. MY RICE BALLS ARE AMAZING! (Some photos are attached because I’m not a good friend haha.) I could not buy fresh coconut. So, I bought coconut cream and dip my rice balls in it. It was a brilliant idea. My secret recipe is below.

THE ELECTION IS COMING SOON. I am so excited.

You know… I am from Mandalay. So, my voting registration is in Mandalay. But, since I can not go back there, I went to the township administration office the other day and registered to vote in Yangon. November 8th. I can’t wait. I am voting for the military.

Hahaha… okay. It is not even funny. What kind of lunatic votes for the military? I want to get my country's situation to be better - not worse - thank you very much!

What do I do during the stay at home period?

  • Read (I read tons of books. Last month, I read 43 books (mostly I listen to audiobooks while I’m cleaning the dishes or working-out.)

  • Workout

  • Study

  • Work (I am developing new tours for the next travel season!)

  • Draw

  • Sleep/ Eat

  • Netflix (Okay… people here are obsessed with Emily in Paris. YES! Gabriel. But, I am on Criminals UK marathon.)

Okay… That’s all for now.

I miss you. Take care. Wear a mask (I don’t want you to die too soon before we gossip in person about the people we don’t like.)

Bye-bye

Your (most beautiful) friend,

Zayar

Zayar’s delicious rice balls

  • 10 tablespoons of sticky rice powder

  • 2 tablespoons of rice powder

  • A little bit of salt

  • A handful of jaggery palm sugar

  • Coconut cream

  1. Mix the sticky rice and rice powder in a bowl with a little bit of salt.

  2. Add some water to make a paste. Add water little by little.

  3. When you get the paste, make little balls, and put a piece of jaggery inside the rice ball.

  4. Put the balls in the boiling water. They will sink to the bottom of the pan.

  5. When the balls rise up, they are ready.

  6. Put them on a plate or something and pour coconut cream on the top.

  7. You are welcome.
